In this video film, the camera slowly glides over a carefully laid out table in an open field; we see how nature changes the table's setting during the waiting for the arrival of the guests who never come. The references to “Vanitas” paintings are very clear as well as to feelings of desperation and insecurity. The film shows that treason can change friendship (expectations) and happiness into disbelief, disillusion (pain) and loneliness.
It is a theme that is very well depicted in the New Testament, in the story of what happened on the Thursday before Easter, the celebration of the exit from slavery in Egypt. The Flavor of Salt has been inspired by this story.
