The Colours - Homeland, Part XI

The film installation Don Quixote refers to the book of Cervantes. The book describes the clash between the ideal, fictional world (of Don Quixote) and the real world and involves classic contrasts of mind versus body, reason versus desire and ideals versus reality.
The work also refers to a historical tradition from the south of the Netherlands where flag twirlers, accompanied by a drummer, wave certain patterns with a flag, in this case the Flag of Compassion. The patterns of the ‘flag prayer’ symbolically express the fight against evil and injustice.
